Elections, Mission, and Service Highlight Annual Convocation

The Heartland Mission District gathered for its annual convocation on March 16th at Bethel in Noblesville. The day began with a worship service led by Rev. Doug Gast of Bethel. Among the highlights on the service was the blessing of the donations to Lutheran World Relief in which both Dean Pam and Pastor Doug participated.

The featured workshop was led by Chaplain Leslie Haines, MAJ (Ret.), Executive Director, Lutheran Military Veterans and Families Ministries, Inc. (LMVFM).

Dean Pam shared information on the status of the mission district, and Dawn Hahm began the recruitment drive for volunteers for Lutheran Week, August 5-9, in Indianapolis.
Council elections were held. Dawn Halm of St. James in Greenfield was elected Secretary. The Rev. Tamara Keen of Adams in Batesville was elected as the Clergy Member, and Gay Hanson Bethel in Noblesville was elected as the Lay Member. Linda Karlin will continue as Treasurer, which is an appointed position.

Mission Minutes were shared by Rev. Tom Curry on Awakening Lives for World Mission (ALWM), by Rhonda Curry on Friends of Hope, and by Rev. Paul Borg on Life-to-Life Discipleship. Also present was Rev. Mulugeta Melaku of the Ethiopian Evangelical Church Mekane Yesus (EECMY). Rev. Melaku is working on his Ph.D. at the seminary in Fort Wayne and has mission-partner relationships with churches in the Heartland Mission District.

After lunch the group assembled Baby Kits for Lutheran World Relief, and the day finished with the installation of the new Council members and with prayer.
